But let’s be real: you get what you pay for — and that usually amounts to a sub-standard garage with not a lot of long-term value.

The main house is your builder’s first priority — the garage takes the leftovers. The garage is subcontracted out to a sub-contractor with minimal oversight.

- Unsealed framing
- Thin and uninsulated garage doors
- Extremely little or none at all electrical

- No floor drains and no slab insulation
- No storage in the roof space

- No door, window, or finishing flexibility
